• Chlamydia Email

    Apr. 23rd 2008 | Interactive. Added by Inge Bakker4

To demonstrate the hidden nature of the Chlamydia virus, an email was sent to every person on the Department of Health’s database that fell into the target audience (males and females aged 15 to 25). Recipients opened the email and saw nothing but a single line of text that instructed them to “Click here and drag to the top of the page.”

Doing so revealed a message written in white, which was previously invisible. It delivered a simple, relevant and stark warning about Chlamydia, and also directed the reader to a website to seek further information and arrange a test.

I like this email campaign sooooo much. Very strong. I wonder if it actually works. In hotmail and other free html email services they usually strip out the body tag and detect similar font color and background colors. Invisible text used to be an old spamming technique.

    Very clever concept.

Similar (study)concept already done for NFI (Nederlands Forensisch Institute) in print and give-aways with glow-in-the-dark, films, etc. “Make the invisible visible.”
Maybe this one is better. Better ‘media-use’.
