Brent Humphreys’ LE TOUR, an ambient photo study of the Tour de France, the most famous and prestigious road bicycle race in the world. His photographs of the Tour de France are part of an ongoing book project he began in 2004.

Her Morning Elegance music video was made of exactly 2096 still photographs, shot and sequenced to create the sense of movement using stop motion technique.

Olympus introduces its new PEN E-PL1 camera with this AR demo, created out of Mullen and Total Immersion. The demo allows users to test out various features of the camera—it even includes a “tripod” and allows you to shoot yourself using the camera’s various filters.

The AR is featured in an insert running in consumer mags like Wired and Popular Science.

GRAFFYARD uses QR Codes to preserve graffiti for posterity by photographing the graffiti before it is removed. After the graffiti has been cleaned off by the local authorities or building owner a QR Code is placed in the exact location which resolves to an image of the original. In that way a mobile phone with a QR-Code Reader can be used to travel back in time.

A combination of drawings and photographs creates a very interesting world.

On May 3rd 2008, artists Robin Hewlett and Ben Kinsley invited the Google Inc. Street View team and residents of Pittsburgh’s Northside to collaborate on a series of tableaux along Sampsonia Way. Neighbors, and other participants from around the city, staged scenes ranging from a parade and a marathon, to a garage band practice, a seventeenth century sword fight, a heroic rescue and much more… Nice idea that hijacks new technology in a fun way. Which brand is going to rip this idea off first? Stay tuned.

Based on about 4500 votes, this is a list of the strangest buildings around the world. Although the list focuses on weird, I think that there also a number of very beautiful buildings. My favorites would be the National Theatre in Beijing and the Church of Hallgrimur in Reykjavik, as displayed here. Take a look at the full list.

Erik Johansson is a 23-year-old computer engineering student from Sweden and produces very interesting photo manipulations. I think that almost every piece from his collection would do well as a canvas above my couch.

Alexa Meade thinks completely backwards. Most artists use acrylic paints to create portraits of people on canvas. But not Meade – she applies acrylic paints on her subjects and makes them appear to be a part of the painting!

Two years ago, photographer David Sotelo ventured into downtown Los Angeles’s former El Dorado Hotel, which had been home to a great many people and families. He managed to make many trips to the hotel before the building’s renovation. His photos of the abandoned hotel are littered with things that residents left behind and covered with the imprints of human lives. via Brainpickings.

Hiroshi Sugimoto has always used his camera to explore unseen phenomena — artifacts of time, light, the elements, and human perception. For his latest project, called Lightning Fields, the award-winning photographer traded optics for electricity using a Van de Graaf generator to send up to 400,000 volts through film to a metal table. The resulting fractal branching, subtle feathering, and furry whorls call to mind vascular systems, geologic features, and trees. via Wired Magazine.

Google StreetView images are pretty cool, in how you can virtually spin around and see what’s on a street in all directions. But far cooler is a Google StreetView “Holodeck” simulator that Google has at its Mountain View campus. Climb into this, and you get StreetView scenes animated, projected on screens all around you, as if you were inside the camera itself.
